While season 4 was a matter of weeks and in the book the end of the trial with Shae and Tyrions confession and the mountain vs Oberyn is the same chapter. So season 4 dragged out the trial a lot, but imo was better as Peter Dinklages confession was amazing. The show had what Tyrion said and thought in the books had it be dialog in the show.
Show Euron's motivation: "I want to fuck the queen." He's a dick. Book Euron's motivation: " I am the godliest man ever to raise sail! You serve one god, brother, but I have served ten thousand. From Ib to Asshai, when men see my sails, they pray." He's a psychopathic pirate sorcerer who exploits fear to try to become a god.
I watched Game of Thrones before I started reading ASoIaF and found that all of the characters were really well done in the show. They're pretty much represented the way they are in the books (except that Catelyn is like 100x more crazy about Bran's accident in the book). The only character that seems completely different to me was Renly.

Book Cersei is a psychopath, a legitimately a crazy person who also is fairly stupid. The changes in the prophecy did result in the changes of Cersei's motivations and behaviour, true, but
Game of Thrones, on the other hand, takes all those tropes and turns them on their head. Good people get their heads chopped off and evil people win. Power corrupts. Family will betray you. It's a very nuanced, much more human approach to fantasy, painted in shades of gray. So they're both worth reading--it just depends what you're in the mood for.
